Self-compassion – the undervalued leadership skill
Showing compassion towards ourself brings multiple benefits for performance, growth, and motivation – both ours and those we lead.
Self-compassion is widely misunderstood. It is considered a warm, soft, fluffy behaviour. The research provides a very different perspective. It is an approach we can develop for multiple benefits in relation to our performance at work, our overall wellbeing, and feelings of positivity.
Benefits of attending
As Leaders and Managers we often show greater compassion to others than we do towards ourself. Many of us live listening to the narrative of an inner critic. In research I conducted, the desire to put others first, always striving for better, and listening to the inner critic, got in the way of a more compassionate approach. Yet evidence shows this is a flawed approach. In this short session we will explore
- What is self-compassion.
- The benefits of self-compassion for you and as a leader / manager
- Understanding the barriers to self-compassion
- How to develop greater self-compassion
Outcomes
Drawing on self-compassion not only can we achieve better outcomes but the process is much pleasanter! As an outcome of attending the session you will:
- Have a greater understanding of what we mean by self-compassion
- Develop new awareness of the many benefits of greater self-compassion
- Have some tools to increase your level of self-compassion
Who is it for
Everyone who notices an inner critic and would like to develop a more effective approach.
